Assault
Cube World Championship Proposal
v1.0
I propose that this event be held once annually (beginning in 2009) to determine the best players of Assault Cube in the world. The core of this proposal concerns the Main Event to determine the best individual player of Assault Cube, however it would be great if other events could be incorporated (see end of document for more information on this). It is important to remember that being the best individual player of AC means you must be a good team player. All events in the tournament would take place on official maps, with the maps to be used for each event released before the event.
1. Format
The ACWC Main Event is structured as follows:
Round 1 -> Round 2 -> Quarter Final -> Semi Finals -> Final
Each round is divided into groups, since not everyone can play the same game at the same time. Each group competes in an event consisting of a number of tests. Here are the details (bear in mind that numbers may vary according to interest, and points/structure will be adjusted accordingly):
Round 1
All players wishing to compete in the ACWC are divided into groups of 20. The top 5 players in the event for each group will progress to round 2. Round 1 events consist of 5 tests to be played sequentially without break. Each test lasts 15 minutes. Teams will be shuffled before each team event.
Test 1 – Capture The Flag (CTF)
1 point is awarded to anyone who captures a flag (no matter how many)
1 point is awarded to the top ranked player on each team
1 point is awarded to the top 2 fraggers on each team
1 point is deducted for anyone with a negative flag score, for each flag they are in the negative
Test 2 – Deathmatch (DM)
1 point is awarded to the top 10 players
1 point is awarded to the top 5 players
1 point is awarded to the top 2 players
1 point is awarded to the winner (so the winner receives a total of 4 points)
Test 3 – Team Keep
The Flag (TKTF)
1 point is awarded to every player on the winning team
1 point is awarded to the top ranked player on each team
1 point is awarded to the top 2 fraggers on each team
Test 4 – Team One
Shot One Kill (TOSOK)
1 point is awarded to the top 2 fraggers on each team
A number of points equal to the floor of a player’s ratio is awarded to that player
Test 5 – Keep The Flag (KTF)
1 point is awarded for each flag kept
1 point is awarded to the top 5 players
1 point is awarded to the winner
Players are ranked as follows:
Most points
Most flags from CTF/KTF (i.e. Tests 1 and 5)
Most frags
Least deaths
NOTE: There will be one additional event at the end of round one for anyone who missed their scheduled event. It will be the same format as the round 1 events and the winner will progress to round 2.
Round 2
Qualifiers for round 2 are divided into groups of 20. The top 20 players (approximately) from all of round 2 will progress to the quarter final, this 20 being composed of the top 20/#groups players from each group. Round 2 events consist of 3 tests to be played sequentially without break. Each test lasts 15 minutes.
Test 1 – DM
Scoring system is the same as round 1 test 2.
Test 2 – One Shot
One Kill (OSOK)
Scoring system is the same as round 1 test 2.
Test 3 – KTF
Scoring system is the same as round 1 test 2.
Players ranked as in round 1.
Quarter Final
Qualifier for the quarter final will compete in a single 20 minute deathmatch. The top 4 will progress to the semi finals.
Semi Finals and
Final
The top finisher in the quarter final will play the 4th placed finisher, 2nd to play 3rd. The winners will play off in the final. Each event will be a 10 minute Last Swiss Standing (LSS). In the event of a draw, 5 minutes of overtime will be played. If this is a draw, the next survivor wins.
2. Results
At the conclusion of each event, preliminary results along with a demo will be posted. Players will have 3 days to lodge any protests, following the resolution of which the final results will be posted.
Rules
- Cheating and abusive conduct will result in loss of all points and immediate disqualification. If this is obvious during the event, the player may be kicked.
- If a player is laggy for excessive periods of time whilst holding the flag, they may be kicked
- If a player disconnects during a TOSOK event, all points from that event will be forfeited (to avoid players disconnecting early with a large ratio).
- Anyone calling for votes during an event may be kicked.
- After protests, the judge’s decision is final.
Procedure For Protests
- Protests should be lodged in private via email, not on the forums.
- Anyone lodging a protest will be investigated themselves as well.
- Anyone under investigation will not be notified unless it is felt that they need to defend themselves (i.e. the protest was not frivolous)
- The judge’s decision is final
3. Resources
An undertaking such as the ACWC requires the resources and cooperation of many people within the AC community. I am unable to run a server myself, so others would need to set these up and send the demos to me. Times need to be organized with serer operator for each event, etc. The process of starting an event might run something like this: players connect to the server in a marshalling map (which may be the same as the first test map), once all players are connected (or 10 minutes say has passed) the server is set to private and the correct map is loaded for the event to commence.
4. Other
As I mentioned before it would be great to have other minor events incorporated into the ACWC, but this would again increase its complexity. These other events would be:
LSS tournament – starting with groups of 10 then reverting 1on1 once 16 players remain
OSOK tournament – as above
There would also be team/clan events:
CTF – 1on1 until we reach a winner (teams limited in size)
TOSOK - 1on1 until we reach a winner (teams limited in size)
as well as the Main Event For Teams:
TKTF - 1on1 until we reach a winner (teams limited in size)
I chose this as the Main Event For Teams since it is obviously the most team-oriented game mode in AC and in my opinion it is the most exciting to spectate and play. A team could be behind by 2 and then keep the flag for the last 45 seconds of the match, scoring 3 flags to win by 1 – awesome to watch.
The focus is meant to be on the individual events since there is already the Release Cup for teams.
This proposal is only v1.0 and any feedback is welcome – even if that is a complete disinterest in this idea. Just reply to the forum post or email directly at yambusters@yahoo.com.au.
